With our easy-to-follow instructions and handy templates, anyone can become a master of this creative art form in no time.
Intro to Paper Cutting Art
Ages: 8+, teens, adults - up to 22 participants max - 60 min. Workshop
Learn the centuries-old Polish art of Wycinanki (vee-chee-NAHN-kee), where intricate paper designs are created by simple folds and cuts, transforming paper into stunning symmetrical art. Welcome to our introduction to paper cutting workshop! This hands-on experience is perfect for individuals of all skill levels, as it offers a simple yet rewarding project. We’ll view images of samples of paper cutting methods, such as radial star designs, accordion-folded figures and symmetrical bilateral images. During this hands-on workshops we’ll be using the symmetrical bilateral technique by working with scissors and layered colored paper. Participants will trace provided pattern templates onto folded stock, learning to navigate tight curves and delicate cuts without tearing. As confidence builds, students will layer multiple colors to create depth and contrast, just as Polish artists have done for generations. At the end of the workshop, each participant will go home with their very own beautiful finished project with an approximate finished size of 8.50” x 11”. With adult participation required with each child under the age of 10, this is a bonding experience like no other.
Please inform participants on all publicity materials: This is not a drop-off class. Adult participation is required with each child under the age of 10.
